Swapo's good rule attracts people to Windhoek: Nandi-Ndaitwah

A senior Swapo member has boasted that the ruling party's governing style has fuelled urbanisation and people's rush from rural areas to seek jobs in urban areas such as Windhoek.
The member of the party's Politburo, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said this during her party's final rally of its election campaign in the Ombili residential area on Sunday afternoon.

She said the influx of people looking for jobs from the rural areas is because of Swapo's good governing style, which is attracting more investors to the city.

“At the beginning, Windhoek was designed to accommodate only 120 000 inhabitants but today you are talking of more than 400 000 inhabitants.”

She said the municipality is also working hard to service more land for the homeless.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is also Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, and Deputy Prime Minister, made reference to the N$80 million that was provided by the Khomas Regional Council to purchase equipment and material for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to empower people economically and eradicate poverty.

Concerning the water crisis in the capital, Nandi-Ndaitwah called on Namibians to save water while the municipality is addressing the issue.

Water saving awareness campaigns are running on national radio and television, while other measures that were put in place by the municipality to save water include water reclamation facilities, pre-paid water taps and an artificial water aquifer.

Having said this she encouraged citizens to vote for the Swapo party during the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections taking place on Friday, saying: “It's the only way the government can carry on with its good intentions to develop the nation”.

Swapo along with the DTA of Namibia, National Unity Democracy Organisation (Nudo), Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), Swanu of Namibia, and Republican Party of Namibia are contesting for seats on the Regional Council and Windhoek Municipality.

About 234 728 registered voters in the Khomas Region are expected to hit the polls from 07h00 to 21h00 and elect representatives who will be mandated with development projects in their region and constituencies.
