//Karas provisional election results point to low turnout

IT appears from the provisional results released by the Electoral Commission of Namibia in //Karas region that a low number of polling officials voted during the special regional and local authority elections.

Figures show that a total of 216 votes were cast across the region during the special voting exercise on Monday that was arranged for polling officials, police officers, seafarers, and other eligible voters who applied to vote in advance of the official voting day slated for tomorrow.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia's regional coordinator for //Karas region, Sixtus Isaacks, however rubbished the suggestion of a low voter turnout on part of the polling officials.

Isaacks said the special voting exercise had only “made provision” for casting of votes for those who will be performing election duties outside their respective constituencies on the official voting day.

“The majority of the polling officials will go to the polls on the official voting day,” Isaacks added.
